Because most of society is not exposed to the disabled Community, they probably don't know about augmentative alternative communicating, (AAC). So depending on the access method or type of device, it can be mistaken as being either a learning tool, or a game. This is especially when the vocabulary is accessed by using a picture set, people tend to walk away, having no idea the individual is composing something to say or ask. If the individual makes a gesture or noise to try to get people to simply wait, it's often mistaken for agitation. If the individual is agitated, it's probably because not enough time is being allowed for the, to speak.
This AAC area is to introduce society to AAC, giving a general idea of what AAC is, how it's obtained, and how it is implemented. AAC has a ride range, from a simple static board or display with letters, words and numbers, to a complicated dynamic system. These systems are often referred to as AAC devices, or communication devices. These devices can be appropriately adapted so any person can access them regardless of their disability. Depending on the age and disability, most individuals can understand you just fine! An AAC device is only so you can understand them.
